Drinking Water Quality for Poultry

Water is involved in every aspect of poultry metabolism. It plays important roles in regulating body temperature, digesting food, and eliminating body wastes. At normal temperatures, poultry consume at least twice as much water as feed. When heat stress occurs, water consumption will double or quadruple. A safe and adequate supply of water is therefore essential for efficient poultry production.

Farms targeted as water resources vanish

The water in the Colorado River could fill the needs of all the homes and offices in Phoenix, Tucson, Las Vegas and much of Southern California, but much of it irrigates vast fields of wheat, alfalfa, cotton and vegetables. That has painted a target on farms as urban water managers search for sources to meet future demands.

Gov. Schwarzenegger Signs Legislation to Protect Environment, Create Jobs

The Governor signed the following bills to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and create jobs in California:
AB 1366 by Assembly member Mike Feuer (D-Los Angeles) will improve water quality by addressing the problem of excess salinity caused by residential water softeners. The bill gives greater discretion to local water agencies where surface and groundwater supplies are particularly susceptible to salt contamination with additional authority to manage these salt discharges. The bill applies to the South Coast, Central Coast, San Joaquin Valley, Tulare Lake and the lower half of the Sacramento Valley hydrologic regions.

Algae Growth In Bodies of Reclaimed Water

Algae contain the green pigment chlorophyll. Like plants, algae carry out photosynthesis which is a biochemical process requiring sunlight, carbon dioxide, and raw mineral nutrients.  As an end product, algae produce oxygen.  Since algae require light for their growth, they are restricted mostly to the top surfaces of trickling filters and ponds.
